The Mens squad have just had their first training weekend. With 3 pool sessions and a land workout it was considered a great success. It was noted that the seniors taught the young Wipper Snappers a lesson in the olds Vs Young Game!

Derby Lakes Tournament

The notorious lakes tournament is more a social highlight in the summer calendar than a serious training opportunity. None the less the polo was hard fought and the sub-zero water temperature helped separate the men from the boys. I'm sure Candy Man even started getting flashbacks to his artic water training camp days with shouts of rank number and platoon name as he emerged from his initial bomb entrance into the lake. On the up side, the lack of sun and icy water did lead to a good participation in the extreme sport of hotcaring between games.

As far as the social side went, i think the general consensus would be that the less mentioned about what went on the better. I would say that i don't think we made many friends, except Primark, whose underwear department had record sales on the Monday after.

29/8/07 - Fred - Invicta beat Penguin

Thank you to everybody who made a special effort to get to the Penguin match last night. I think it was worthwhile although I was astounded to find one of the best teams in Division One in such total disarray two weeks before the season starts.
You all played well and the score did not flatter you especially when you realise that they had 20 players. Let’s take that sort of performance into the new season.

I was talking to the Penguin boys after the game and they are not happy bunnies.  The coach is an ex Hungarian professional player and he is obviously having trouble with the concept of amateur players. He did everything wrong.   He kept them on the side for twenty minutes before the match lecturing them on tactics instead of a proper warm up. Spent the first interval telling them they were rubbish and if they didn’t do what they had been told he was going home after the next quarter. He kept changing all six players every three or four minutes and then totally ignored the team after the half time interval. At the beginning of the fourth quarter most of the top Penguin players got out of the water and I heard them in the dressing room afterwards telling to ‘piss off’ home (their words.)  Apparently he is always threatening to go home half way through sessions and is always very negative.  Sounds like me on a good day. Anyway on that showing they are going to have a hard time in division one this year.

Well done

19/9/07 - Patrick - Invicta make a 100% start to the season

In a tough first weekend Invicta impressed all onlookers and took 6 points from their 3 games. A very well balanced team meant goals came from all areas and left the opposition tactically bamboozled in the efforts to shut down our offence.

23/9/07 - Patrick - Marlins Claim 5 points in Nottingham

In claiming 5 points from a possible 6 the Marlins show that they are not in the division just to make up the numbers and seem to possess the attributes and team spirit to push for promotion.

15/10/07 - National League Website - There is no stopping Invicta

Invicta maintained a 100 per cent record after nine fixtures and five-point lead over second-placed Solihull – with comfortable victories against Hucknall (11-5), Birkenhead (15-5) and Sutton & Cheam (13-9).

Invicta began their weekend with an 11-5 defeat of Hucknall – including six goals by Murphy – and a 16-6 victory over Birkenhead. Murphy (4), White (3) and Bailey (3) were the chief Invicta marksmen. Bailey’s six goals ensured Invicta’s hat-trick of wins – they beat Sutton 13-9.

Invicta’s championship ambitions will be firmly tested at the next Division Two weekend at Bath University on 3/4 November, when they play the three sides immediately behind them in the table – Solihull, Sheffield and Tyldesley.
