2/10/06 - Pat - The National League stand up and take notice of Invicta's Impressive display at Ponds Forge

Invicta finish the weekend strong against Reading, with the biggest winning margin they've achieved in a National League game for several seasons. Except for a slight blip against a strengthened Otter side the second weekend of the season was a big team success and puts the club in a greatly strengthened league position. This is backed up with having the best goal difference in the league.

Quotes from the National League Official Website:

"Invicta's 22-11 defeat of Reading was a real team effort - no fewer than ten of their players featured on the score sheet. King scored four ...."

"Lethwood and Murphy scored four each for Invicta, who beat Leeds 18-10 to take five out of six points from the weekend."

16/10/06 - Pat - Millfield - The Good, The Bad and the Unlucky!

An all round disappointing weekend for Invicta began brightly with an impressive victory over Scottish giants, Caledonian. From then on things went downhill - a close loss to local rivals Otter followed by a poor performance in the last game of the weekend against Tydlesley made it a hard journy home. To demonstrate the close compact nature of the division, If Invicta had played to their potential and turned defeat into victory on these last two games, they would be sitting second in the table.

23/10/06 - Pat - Invicta Players make a mark for Great Britain

This weekend Rob Padden, Greg Jackson, Alan Chambers, Sean King and Jack Waller were all selected to represent thr Great Britain Juniors as they made their debut in the National League. At one time all five players were in the water together and it was noted that it could have been the Invicta junior squad!
30/10/06 - Pat - Invicta players help England to victory in the Home Nations
Invicta's Jack Waller, Sean King and Alan Chambers all played a major role in securing the Home Nations Title for the England Juniors. This is yet another example of the strong youth set up at Invicta.
30/10/06 - Pat - Invicta fall short, again!

It has become a recurring theme this season - Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Countless games have been decided by a couple of goals, a couple of mistakes, a couple of bad decisions and almost without exception it has been Invicta on the losing end. This was once again evident with our 2 narrow defeats in Lancaster .

On the up side many positives can also be taken away from the weekend. The two defeats were split by an impressive victory over, the promotion hopefuls, Hucknall. We also once again showed our strength in depth with 8 different goal scorers over the weekend.  Another thought to take from the current situation is that if we had just upped our game by 5% it could easily of given us an extra 10 points (reversing the 5 games lost by 2 goals or less) and put us top of the table. This has to be the focus for next season and is clearly a realistic goal.

30/10/06 - Pat - Marlins; Weekend of two halves!

The Marlins Keep their hope of promotion alive with a victory over Otter but didn't help themselves with a narrow loss to Bristol .

This all makes for an exciting end to the season.
30/10/06 - Pat - Stephenson awarded "European Goal of the Month"

The Committee of European Water Polo met up in Hungry today to discuss the issues effecting the current game, the format of the upcoming Olympics as well as the performance of players across Europe in the previous month. As part of this a "Goal of the Month" award was decided. In a close run vote Invicta's Marc stephenson took top spot with an incredible bounce shot from well inside his own 7 meters. Stephenson is apparently a very humble player and has yet to make any comment prior to the game about his goal.

(For note; American Captain, Wolfgang Wolf's submersion shot, while playing for Belgrade in the European Club Championships, came in 2nd with Clive Donaldson's lob from within his own half in a distant 3rd)).
11/11/06 - Pat - Invicta 's last NL Weekend goes from the disappointing to the sublime

A strange weekend for results saw Invicta secure a midtable final placing. It was always going to be a difficult weekend with four key players out and Martin away, overseeing the marlins. It started disappointingly with close losses to both Leeds and Caledonia. After a night of quiet contemplation, the next days performance was of a totally different calabar. It saw Invicta pick up their game with an outstanding 31 -2 victory over Reading (who earlier that weekend had inflicted a damaging defeat over Caledonia). This unbelievable performance could not help but be noticed by the whole of the National league as well as giving the club the 2nd best goal difference in the division. Quotes from the NL official website:

"Reading, who, much to their embarrassment, were crushed 31-2 by Invicta's  young team. A league record score perhaps?"

"The remarkable 31-goal spree by Invicta's young side include eight goals by Callum Bailey, a recent selection for the GB, six by Alex Murphy and five Patrick Baker."

The weekend also saw the emotional farewell to our Favourite Aussie Import, Hoogy bear who is being deported for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

A lot of credit should also go to Spud, who stepped in to Martins shoes for the weekend, and made sure the team kept their shape and discipline.
11/11/06 - Pat - Marlins do enough to set up a potential promotion grabbing last weekend

Marlins claimed three points from their penultimate weekend to set up a nail bitting finish to the season at Crawly in 2 weeks time. Currently they sit 4 points behind the front 2 but have 3 games in hand.
27/11/06 - Pat - Marlin's finish season in style to make playoffs

The Marlins take 5 points from the last weekend of the season at Crawly to keep their promotion aspirations alive. Their final position of 2nd sets up a playoff showdown with Basingstoke in 2 weeks.

11/12/06 - Pat - Marlins secure promotion in style
Marlins made sure that they would be playing their polo in the 3rd division next season by steamrolling  Basingstoke, 19-6, in their promotion playoff. An inspirational team performance will make next years opponents stand up and take notice. Quotes from NL website:

"Impressive Invicta Marlins outplayed Basingstoke"

"Marlins never looked back after scoring five times without reply in the first period. Richard Hooper led their scorers with six. Other goals went to Collins (5), Cheetham (3), Tollefson (2), Jackson, Donaldson and Chambers."

28/5/07 - Pat - Invicta 8 - 16 Cheltenham

Invicta Men lost to Cheltenam in the ASA Cup compition in their first test of the season. With a scoreline that flattered Cheltenham, Invicta can take alot out of their performance and for long periods of the game held their own with one of the top sides in the country. It was also a good insight in to where we need to be in future seasons. For more info go to the Mens Section.
11/6/07 - Fred - Invicta Ladies Win London League

Congratulations to the Invicta Ladies team who won the London League Ladies Championship at Whitgift’s School on Sunday 10th June.

They won the Tournament over three week-ends finally beating a London Select team 6 – 5 and then immediately beating Haywards Heath 10 – 6 in the Final.

It is difficult to pick out or name any star players because everybody played well but is it was very exciting to see so many very young players come in and play with a maturity way beyond their years and that certainly bodes well for the future. It was just a magnificent achievement by a very young team (average age 19) to play eight continuous quarters of hard competitive polo and still beat a team that play in Division 2 of the National League.

Congratulation to Lois and Kevin who coached the team in the absence of the usual coaches. (Who needs Martin and Steve anyway ?).

Once again – Congratulation to all the players

1/7/07 - Pat - Invicta Juniors Win the ASA National Title

This weekend the Invicta juniors took the national title for the second year running. Going into the tournament as favourites they didn't disappoint. In a format which saw the semi's and finals spanning over one weekend the team couldn't afford to take their eye off the ball. A demolition of the well funded Manchester side, 11-5, on the Saturday set up a show down with local rivals Sutton in the final. The boys raised their game and took a 9-6 victory and the title.
1/7/07 - Pat - Invicta Youth Show Promise by Making ASA semi finals

The signs look bright for the future of Invicta with both the Junior and Youth teams performing well at the national level. The performance of the Youth team shouldn't be over shadowed by the achievements of the older age group as they showed signs of their potential in reaching the Semi finals of the national competition. They came up against a strong Bristol side who shot out of the blocks with 5 early goals. This made it a game of catch up and the gap was just too big to close. Finale score;  Invicta Youth 12 - 16 Bristol

1/7/07 - Pat - Invicta Men claim 2nd in the Army tournament

In this tough well fought tournament Invicta put on a respectful yet not wholly impressive display. This tournament is a good chance to practice in an all deep water pool against some tough opposition and with this in mind it was a slightly disappointing turnout from senior players. Saying that, it also showed the strength that Invicta has in depth by fielding a Junior, Youth and Men's team as well as losing players to Worthing (who also entered the tournament) all in the same weekend. The tournament was eventually taken by Avondale, who where fresh off their Derby Lakes Victory and bursting to the seams with impressive foreigners who ply their trade in National League Div 1 with other teams. Despite this, Invicta took them right to the wire with a missed shot in the last second that would of drawn the game 6 all.

24/6/07 - Pat -The world renound Derby Lakes tournament provides some good social training

The Derby Lakes Tournament (which was actually held in Nottingham) is definitely a highlight of the social calendar even if it is hard to play good polo in a freezing lake, covered in pond weed and tangled in underwater cables. Despite the conditions I think everyone attending will agree that the tour style weekend was definitely worth while.

A special thanks to the Candy man for organising as well as anticipating every member of the team failing to bring a tent or sleeping bag and providing the suitable equipment. I think players were too busy digging out their old cheap easyrip pants to worry about such insignificant equipment as a tent.

04/09/07 - Tour to Holland is a big success

Invicta enjoyed a great weekend in Holland both in and out of the pool. A well organised tournament offered plenty of water time for all those who travelled. It was a good pre-season team building exercise for both Invicta and the Marlins. It should also be noted that Invicta pleased the crowds with their "Total Polo" approach and were renamed Team Flair amongst the cheering onlookers. A thanks should go to Gregg Candy Wallace for all his work in making it happen. For Picture and Videos go to
